Tips for February

Spring is in the air! The days are lengthening and there's plenty to do to tidy up after the winter months. The soil may still be too wet to dig, especially on clay, but plants will be stirring beneath the soil. The tips of early flowering bulbs will be poking just above the soil including dutch iris and alliums. So be careful not to tread on those emerging through grass and take care when using the hoe in borders.
Forsythia int. spectabillis The forsythia in the nursery are looking good and are now in bud and will flower for the end of February. Snowdrops are now starting to emerge.
Now is the time to look for planters for your Spring Bedding. We are now starting to get busy with orders for half barrels for the local authorities. Prices start from only £15.
Salix caprea Kilmarnock - Standard Weeping Pussy Willow. A dwarf, weeping tree with dark green leaves with grey-green undersides. Flowers in mid- to late spring, the bare branches are covered in golden male catkins. This tree is ideal for the small garden or even planted in a container on the patio.
